6090 FS Hydraulic Mining Shovel Travels from Dortmund to South Milwaukee

The design and manufacture of the largest hydraulic mining shovel on the market is a feat in itself. Now, throw in a project spanning two years and two continents to relocate production of the Cat 6090 FS. In an effort to meet customer demand and best utilize our manufacturing facilities, the decision to relocate 6090 FS production from Dortmund, Germany, to South Milwaukee, Wisconsin, was made in mid-2010.
As a result of the teamwork and global coordination of efforts, the welding of the complete steel structure, including undercarriage and attachment, was executed completely in South Milwaukee for the first time. The logistics and coordination of more than 2,000 different parts, totalling approximately 34,000 individual pieces, was led from Dortmund. Much coordination, design collaboration and an acute focus of on-time delivery of information from Dortmund to South Milwaukee contributed to the success of this first South Milwaukee unit, which is destined for a customer in Indonesia.
Reinhard Reinartz, Hydraulic Mining Shovel Product Manager congratulates the team, "The 6090 FS Ultra Class journey to South Milwaukee has just begun, and I am sure it will be a long successful one. Once again, I do applaud all team members for their tremendous efforts, commitment and endurance to make this a success. Many thanks!"
