What natural gas powered products does Caterpillar produce?

Caterpillar has been manufacturing natural gas powered engines and generator sets since 1947. We are not a new player in this industry. Our product line for natural gas powered products includes gas turbines and spark-ignited engines for the electric power and gas compression markets. But that's not all.

In 2011, Caterpillar acquired MWM, a leading global supplier of sustainable, natural gas and alternative-fuel engines, allowing Caterpillar to significantly expand customer options for sustainable power generation solutions.

In June 2012, Caterpillar signed an agreement with Westport Innovations Inc. to co-develop natural gas technology using a dual fuel High Pressure Direct Injection (HPDI) for off-road equipment, including mining trucks and locomotives. Our customers in high horsepower applications (like mining and locomotives) are asking for a natural gas option because of the environmental and financial benefits.

We plan to provide a full line-up of dual-fuel products called Dynamic Gas Blending (DGB) kits. These products, which leverage our industry-leading, high-horsepower diesel engines and burn a range of fuels from field gas to LNG, are available now.

We will also make DGB and HPDI retrofit kits available to existing customers of Caterpillar engines, standing behind the performance and reliability of our gas solutions.
