Caterpillar African American Network (CAAN)

The Caterpillar African American Network (CAAN) is an affinity group within Caterpillar that supports African American employees. The CAAN support system provides hosting for potential new hires, formal & informal mentoring, networking, and developmental opportunities.

CAAN supports the Caterpillar People Critical Success Factor (CSF) by creating an inclusive culture that fully engages current and new employees in a safe environment, embracing Team Caterpillar. The group focuses on the development of a global leadership team that reflects the diversity in the markets we serve and the communities in which we work.

CAAN is supported by an advisory board headed by a Caterpillar vice president. The organization consists of seven committees, working together to enhance Caterpillar's ability to attract, develop and engage African American employees. These committees include:

  • Community Service
  • Communications
  • Hosting
  • Mentoring
  • Metrics
  • Networking
  • Steering

CAAN hosts monthly networking meetings that provide a venue and personal access to Caterpillar and community leaders . Everyone is encouraged to attend as it is an opportunity to demonstrate commitment to Caterpillar's success and continuing interest in the efforts made to improve diversity, inclusion, and employee engagement in all of its forms.
