Marketing Career Opportunities

Technical Marketing Development Program

Caterpillar offers exciting marketing career opportunities to students graduating with technical and business degrees.  Recent college graduates start their career with Caterpillar as an active participant in our three-month Marketing Training Class. The program has been in place for over 50 years and is designed to teach participants about the value of the Caterpillar brand, our organizational structure and marketing strategies, and the industries and customers that we serve.

Following completion of the three month program, employees begin approximately 3 years of rotational assignments as a Marketing Representative in one of our global industry groups or distribution development groups.  In these assignments, employees learn about customer needs and the competitive environment, while contributing to Caterpillar's position as the global leader in customer value.  During the rotational assignments, Marketing Representatives will be assigned a developmental supervisor to coordinate and ensure the employee's appropriate and expedient developmental schedule - in preparation for a successful field-based assignment. Marketing Representatives also attend a series of Continuing Engagement Program (CEP) training sessions designed specifically for that representative's career path (industry product support, industry sales support, or dealer operations).

After demonstrating competency, employees are promoted to a field position where they will function as a consultant to help assigned dealers develop and meet business goals. This field experience is intended to provide a strong base for a rewarding career in marketing management within Caterpillar.  As many as 100 employees start in this program each year globally.

  • Develop future industry leaders  through a series of developmental and field-based assignments in product and market consultant positions.
