What is the LPDP?

The Logistics Professional Development Program (LPDP) advances the development and training of the next generation of highly capable Cat Logistics leaders, with particular focus on supervision, inventory management, operations administration, packaging, commercial activity and global planning.  At the completion of the three-year program, logistics professionals are placed in permanent positions in the Parts Distribution & Logistics Division of Caterpillar Inc.

What are some of the possible rotations?

One Rotation: 1 year

Two Rotations (any of the following): 1 year each

Integrated Logistics Services 
Integrated Logistics Services provide logistics services for Caterpillar’s operations worldwide.  This division has primary responsibility for receiving, warehousing, distribution, shipping, replenishment, material handling, sequencing, kitting, and sub-assembly.  Positions would include the following:

  • Logistics Supervisor
  • Operations Supervisor
  • Planning Analyst  

These positions require a basic understanding of manufacturing operations/processes, supply chain logistics, and inventory control.  

Transportation

Cat Logistics Global Transportation manages the transportation of finished products and parts across all modes - truck, rail, ocean and air for Caterpillar Inc. Cat Logistics' Transportation organization has over 400 employees deployed globally and is one of the largest freight movers in the world; managing over a $2 billion budget, 600 carriers and 4,000 order to delivery lanes.  Global Transportation is comprised of four specific functions:  Transportation Procurement, Transportation Operations, Trade Compliance and Transportation Transformation.

Research and Engineering                                                      

These positions are designed to improve the logistics processes and layouts used in logistics and/or assembly operations.  Incumbent will assist in investigating alternative assembly and logistics layouts, assembly and logistics operations and processes to provide additional capacity, and to improve material flow and productivity.  Also, this individual would assist in writing and following up on capital projects, purchase requisitions, special work orders, miscellaneous interplant transfers, surplus equipment dispositions, and a variety of other documents to procure equipment and services.  They will be instrumental in developing logistics standards and may also work on simulation projects.
